There is Beauty in Diversity.

With it being Martin Luther King Jr. day, I wanted to share my thoughts on diversity and equality.
It seems so silly to me- that people are judged by the color of their skin. Something on the outside, which in no way determines the person's character or worth.

Being a family fostering a child that has a different skin color than the rest of us, I hear the rude, heartless comments. "Oh, he's brown!" I see the looks on peoples faces, judgement written all over them. The thing is, this precious baby's skin color was not in his control when he was being created in his mother's womb. God made him this way, and he is perfect just the way he is.

Why are people so quick to assume when they see a baby with a different skin color being carried around through the grocery store? They know nothing about us or this child, yet they think they know everything.

Personally, I think it is beautiful! Seeing everyone's special and unique features; knowing the fact that no two human beings are the same. That is just wonderful to me! God made us all different, and all of the beautiful skin tones he created are just one of the many ways that is showcased.

I long for the day when all people get to be treated the same; get to have the same rights. The day when nobody is better than the other. When we don't compete for the highest status of fame, but show each other kindness and love! Even if that day isn't until all of God's children kneel before the feet of Jesus in Heaven, we can still do something today.

You may think you aren't of enough power or authority to do so, but you don't have to be president of the United States to spread kindness everyday. It just takes a small step; letting someone know that they are appreciated and loved. A simple act such as a warm smile has the power to melt away the chains of hatred and rejection one may face. You don't know the situations people may be dealing with. You can't see the unseen, or hear the untold. All you can do is show them love. It doesn't matter if they have hurt you in the past. It doesn't matter if you don't even know who they are. Loving and accepting everyone, just as Jesus does, takes us one step closer to living in a world filled with the joy of kindness.
